    That is a good question.
I would get in the internet. Search the Mormon church in these matters. Usually their records are acurate.

    Sanchez Perales

    Dear Christina:
Have you tried ancestry.com and looked for Sanchez Perales's border crossing? Sometimes if you are lucky it lists the exact address in Mexico. If there is a library nearby with a genealogy center then they may have ancestry.com free of charge. Some of the LDS history centers also have ancestry.com. You need to have a more specific area, so you are not searching all over the entire state. I could not find Sanchez, Margarito or Tranguilina in familysearch and I did a search of the LDS library catalog for Guanajuanto and did not come up with anything either. Is Guanajuanto the correct spelling?

I have a picture of his brother Apolonio Perales with wife and children. It says at the bottom corner Guanajuanto,?Gato.? Isn't there a El gato in Mexico?? I'm waiting for the immigration application that I ordered.? Hopefully some light will start shining.? I was hoping there might be family out there that has some information.? Thank you Maureen.

    Dear Christina:
Have you tried ancestry.com and looked for Sanchez Perales's border
crossing? Sometimes if you are lucky it lists the exact address in Mexico.
    If
there is a library nearby with a genealogy center then they may have
ancestry.com free of charge. Some of the LDS history centers also have
ancestry.com. You need to have a more specific area, so you are not
    searching
all over the entire state. I could not find Sanchez, Margarito or
    Tranguilina
in familysearch and I did a search of the LDS library catalog for
    Guanajuanto
and did not come up with anything either. Is Guanajuanto the correct
    spelling?

I am sorry I don't speak or write in Spanish.  How do you know if my grandfather is from there?  Do you know any Sanchez Perales?  We were not left with a whole lot of information before my grandfather passed.  He said his father's name was Margarito Perales and mother Tranquilina Sanchez and only one know brother Apolonio Perales that stayed in Mexico with his wife and 3 children(known).  Thank you for any help or information.

Private Email - Please: Victor Villasenor - was - Sanchez Peral

Sorry I was kind of asleep at the wheel or should I say busy beyond
    belief.

I would like to request that all the interested parties on this
Guanajuato thread please take it to private email. It has gone on way
way way tooooooooo long. I'd also suggest that for great help and
information on Guanajuato that you try Jonathan Walkers MexicanFHR
group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mexicanfhr/ Jonathan is truly a
great researcher and very very helpful. Rootsweb also has a group
    dedicated to this estado.

Now what were we saying about Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes
??? Victor Villasenor??? Aren't his books about Los Altos? How factual
are his novels? Are they worth reading to get a sense of what really was
    going on?

    thanks,

    joseph

Sorry for intruding. Someone gave me this site as a good source for finding ancestors since I have found many on ancestry.com and also family search, among many others.  Thank you to all who responded.  I will take the advice and look else where. Many thanks.

If anyone needs to find out where a certain rancho is located, you can look
it up on the following site:

    http://mapserver.inegi.gob.mx/AHL/inicio.do

This database contains names of ranchos from all places in Mexico. Hope this
    is helpful.

Yes that is the correct spelling. From what others are telling me he must have lived in the capital city of Guanajuanto.
