Batch numbers for LDS films

  • Add
  • By romero89 | Mon, 2006-10-30 14:30

When researching my family in SLC some years back, I copied the film
number (eg. 0218487, pg. 310, 311) for my reference records. I see
now that in order to add this film to our website film list, I must
have a batch number. How do I get a batch number for my film
numbers? I've looked around at the FamilySearch.org site but could
not find a place that tells me batch numbers in relation to the
    numbers I have.

I would be happy to add the films to the Neustros files if I could
    find the batch numbers.

    Adding Films to the database

    Linda:

The films database serves two functions:

    1. Let members know what films other members have on indefinite loan

    2. Provide batch numbers so that members can do batch searches simply by knowing the relevant municipality and dates... the VRI or IGI buttons link directly to the familysearch.org website.

Do you have these films on indefinite loan at your local family history center and would you be willing to do sporadic lookups for people in the group? If so, you can enter them without the batch number.

If you do not have the films on indefinite loan, then yes, you should enter batch numbers, otherwise we are simply duplicating information already in the Family History Library catalog.

There is no simple way of getting batch numbers and many films do not have batch numbers (if they have not been extracted). However, if you have a specific name and date in a town, you can enter that search in familysearch.org and when the record comes up it will list the batch number for the film.
